Heavy rain lashes Madikeri, Gulbarga

Heavy rain continued to batter parts of Madikeri and Gulbarga on Friday. Gonnikoppal, Bhagamandala, Srimangala and Shanthalli areas of Madikeri are experiencing heavy downpour for the fifth consecutive day.

Cauvery, Sujyothi and Kannike rivers of Triveni Sangam in Bhagamandala and Hattihole, Chiklihole, Balele, Lakshmanatheertha in South Madikeri are overflowing.

The farmers who have already suffered losses due to crop damage, are now struggling to protect themselves from rain havoc. The district has recorded 3.3 cm rainfall in the past 24 hours. Madikeri has recorded 4.6 cm, Bhagamandala recorded 7.2 cm and Shantalli 6.0 cm of rainfall respectively. Harangi Reservoir is full and the ouflow has been recorded at 1,650 cusec.

Gulbarga

Heavy downpour badly affected road repair and drainage works here on Friday. Lalbagh Cross, N V College Road and S B Temple Road witnessed heavy traffic jams because of waterlogged roads. The movement of traffic was also disrupted on the railway underpass on the Old Jevargi Road that was constructed recently.
