Organic trade fair in Nov

An international Organic Trade Fair ‘BioFoch India together with India organic 2012’ will be held at the Palace Grounds here from November 29 to December 1.

The fair has been organised by Nuremburg Messe, International Competence Center for Organic Agriculture and Department of Agriculture, Karnataka and supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, APEDA and Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI).

National and international exhibitors will participate in this fair, which comprises exhibitions, seminars, food festivals, and organic buyer-seller meets. The 2011 trade fair had attracted as many as 171 exhibitors and 7,529 visitors, including trade buyers from Germany and France, according to a release. With less than 42,000 ha under certified organic farming during 2003-04, organic agriculture has grown almost 30 fold during the last five years.  By 2012, India had brought 9.2 million ha area under organic certification process. Out of this, the cultivated area accounts for 8.2 lakh ha, while the remaining area is wild harvest collection area.
