Last Updated 03 September 2012, 18:29 IST

JD(S) leader H D Revanna has demanded that the State government should convene a special session of the Legislature to pass a resolution, urging the Centre to provide adequate funds to tackle drought in the State.

Addressing reporters here on Monday, he said the government should also urge the Centre to officially declare the entire State drought-hit.

Besides, the State government needs to take austerity measures in view of the drought, he added.

Accusing the Union government of discrimination, he said the Congress-ruled states have received more grants for drought relief measures.

The JD(S) leader cited the examples of Rajasthan which received Rs 424 crore and Maharashtra Rs 501 crore while Karnataka was given only Rs 195 crore.

Terming the drought tours of Congress and the BJP in the State ‘a drama’, Revanna said the drought-affected need relief, not sympathy.
