Jarkiholi group demands plum portfolios

Last Updated 03 September 2012, 19:10 IST

Municipal Administration Minister Balachandra Jarkiholi and his supporters on Monday separately met Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and his Deputy K S Eshwarappa, seeking the Karnataka Urban Industrial Development Finance Corporation and the Karnataka Urban Water Suppy and Sewerage Board portfolios.

Eshwarappa, who was at the Cabinet committee meeting on drought, came out to give an audience to Jarkiholi.

The party central leadership has already approved a minor reshuffle of portfolios, which is likely in a week’s time. Govind Karjol, who had been insisting on Rural Development and Panchayat Raj portfolio which is held by Eshwarappa, seems to have developed cold feet.

His supporters are learnt to have advised him not to take up a major portfolio in the middle of the financial year when the plan allocation for the department has already been made.

Karjol is learnt to have told Eshwarappa that he was happy with the portfolios allotted to him (Minor Irrigation and Kannada and Culture).
