Two days after the mutilated body of a youth was found on the railway tracks in east Delhi, police after investigations found that he was killed and had not committed suicide.

When the preliminary post-mortem reports suggested that the body was cut to pieces by a sharp weapon and not by a train, a case of murder has been registered against the victim’s father-in-law.

Body of Paras Bhasin, 23, a resident of Hari Nagar, was found on the railway line near the Pandav Nagar area on Saturday. The kin of the deceased alleged that the girl’s family, whom Paras had secretly married had plotted the murder.

Paras, a BBA final year student was in a relationship with a girl for the past four years and had secretly married her on 9 May 2012 in a Arya Samaj temple but they had been living separately in their respective houses since then.

It was around 15 days ago that the two families disovered they were married. While Paras’ family approved the marriage, the girl’s father was in strong opposition of the relationship because of the difference in their financial status.

According to the Karandeep Verma, brother-in-law of the victim, Satish Mittal the girl’s father called Paras on August 29 and threatened to kill him.

He also told him to either start a business with a turn over of at least Rs 50 lakh or stay away from her daughter. Karandeep also alleged that Paras got a call on September 1 at around 3:30 pm after which he seemed disturbed.

He was also thinking about hiring a lawyer to solve the problem so he could stay with the girl.

Prima facie, it appeared that the person died due to the impact of the train, but the post-mortem reports suggest that Paras was drugged before he was murdered and brutally cut into pieces by a sharp object.

“The police is looking for Paras’ mobile SIM card and also trying to trace the number from which his mother got a series of calls about the whereabouts of her son’s body from some unknown person,” said a senior official.

The complaint filed by the victim’s family accused Satish Mittal of constantly threatening their son. A case under Section 302 has been registered against Mittal and the police will summon him for questioning on Tuesday.
