Siemens plans new factory in Chennai

 Germany-based Siemens Home Appliances plans to set up a washing machine plant in Chennai as it plans to expand its India operations.

Speaking at the sidelines of the inauguration of the company’s third brand store in Bangalore, Siemens India General Manager Sales (built-in appliances) Ajaz Vakil said that since work has not yet started on the proposed factory, no further details would be available.

Washing machines is the largest selling home appliance for the company in India, which, at present, has seven such brand stores in the country. Though, earlier media reports put the investment at Rs 479 crore, Vakil declined to comment on further details about the factory.

According to a release by the Tamil Nadu government, Bosch Siemens Home Appliances, a joint venture between Siemens Home Appliances and Bosch was allotted 42 acres of land in Pillaipakkam (near Kanchipuram) for the new factory on September 2, 2011.
