The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has invited tenders for advertisements on its pillars and piers.

A senior official of the Corporation told Deccan Herald that 40 piers between SV Road and Indiranagar station along the Reach 1 (MG Road to Baiyappanahalli station) have been selected for advertisements.

“A total of 2,880 sq ft of space has been set open for the display of signages and digital advertisements. With the minimum licence fee for the package being Rs 30 lakh for three years, each sq ft of advertisement space on Metro piers and pillars will cost at least Rs 1,042,” he said.

Another official from the BMRCL said a pre-bid meeting has been convened on September 25 wherein queries of parties interested in putting advertisements on the Metro piers would be answered.

The BMRCL officials further said the bidder should have minimum experience of three years in the field of licensing of outdoor media signage in India.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has booked 60 cases in the past 15 days in its drive against illegal hoardings, flexes and posters across the City and collected Rs 1.10 lakh as penalty.

The officials from the Palike advertisement department said the violators have been booked under the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1981.

N Jayaram, Additional Commissioner, BBMP, said 35 flexes were removed from the Palace Grounds area recently.

“A public interest litigation is pending in the High Court on installing illegal flexes across the City. The Court has asked the Palike for an action taken report and we are in the process of removing the flexes,” he said.

The officer said during the drive they mostly found the flexes of political leaders put by by their supporters without any permission.

Apart from the flexes, advertisement hoardings and film posters pasted on the compound walls and Metro pillars were removed during the drive.
