Operator charges toll at 2 Gurgaon booths

Motorists at Kherki Daula toll plaza were caught in a traffic jam on Wednesday as they had to pay the usual fee after the operator claimed that the court had only restrained it from collecting tax at one of three toll plazas, police said.

Reacting to continuous traffic mess on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway toll plaza, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday had barred expressway concessionaire Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Ltd (DGSCL) from collecting any charges from commuters for 15 days.

“We had stopped taking fee from all the three toll plazas on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway starting Tuesday midnight.

But our lawyer told us on Wednesday morning that the court has restrained the company to collect the fee only at Sirhol (24 km from ISBT) toll barrier, so we resumed our exercise,” a DGSCL spokesperson said.

DGSCL has installed three toll barriers on the Expressway.

A division bench comprising Justice Jasbir Singh and Justice Rakesh Kumar had restrained DGSCL from collecting toll.

The bench expressed its displeasure at the concessionaire not being able to control traffic snarls at the busy toll plaza used by thousands of vehicles every day.

Assistant commissioner of police Ravinder Kumar Tomar said there is some confusion regarding the court’s directions. “We are waiting for a copy of the order. We will be in a position to say something after that,” Tomar said.
