'Rs 2 lakh insurance for pvt vehicle drivers'

Deputy Commissioner D S Vishwanath, on Wednesday, announced the introduction of ‘Karnataka State Private Commercial Vehicle Drivers Accident Insurance Scheme’ through the Karnataka State Unorganised Labourers Social Security Board.

The scheme will benefit drivers with commercial private vehicle driving license including autorickshaws, taxi, maxicab, lorry and private buses and provide them with an insurance cover of Rs two lakh.

He was speaking while distributing the identification card to the registered beneficiaries of the scheme, in his office.

The scheme will benefit the private auto drivers, taxi, lorry and bus drivers along with their families.

Payment

The registration fee for the scheme is one-time Rs 25 and the premium amount is borne by the State government who have tied up with the Royal Sundaram Insurance Company in this regard, he added.

The beneficiaries are required to submit in their application along with address proof, passport size photo and details of the bank account.

The applications can be obtained from the office of the committee, 800 Nemmadi Kendras across the State and 57 regional transport office, transport units and Employees Association office.

The beneficiaries or the nominees are required to submit the application within six months of the occurrence of the accident on duty.

Disability issue

The insurance cover will be provided death and suffering deformity either permanent or temporary disability sustained. The nominees can avail the benefit by submitting a copy of the postmortem report, first information report and insurance application.
