2,750 beneficiaries yet to receive Bhagyalakshmi bonds

The project was implemented before the formation of the district. The then JD(S) and BJP coalition government had introduced the project.
In 2006-07, during the time of undivided Kolar district, 5,492 bonds were distributed to beneficiaries in the Chikkaballapur sub-division. At least 6,368 beneficiaries were identified after the formation of Chikkaballapur district, out of which 4,758 beneficiaries have already received the bond. During the year 2008-09, 2,724 beneficiaries were identified out of which 1,593 bonds were distributed.

Hence, during the past two years, 2,750 bonds have remained undistributed. Life Insurance Corporation has been entrusted with the task of distributing the bonds. The Government has to deposit funds with the LIC for the purpose.

According to an officer of the department, the distribution is delayed as the Government has not deposited any prescribed amount with the LIC. And this will be distributed shortly.

Plights of workers
Anganawadi workers play a vital role in identifying the beneficiaries. They have put in much efforts in collecting information on poor families in urban and rural areas. But the honourarium they are paid for this is very less and often undistributed. They receive a meagre sum of Rs 25 per month as honourarium. But this amount is also not paid to them from the last one year.

Anganawadi Workers’ District Association secretary Nagaratnamma has demanded the Government to release the funds immediately in the interest of the workers.
