Bangalore to get rid of water woes soon

Urban development minister S Suresh Kumar said that the works of water supply to Bangalore was in its final stage and would be launched in last week of September.

He was speaking to media after supervising the fourth stage of second phase of the works of water supply to Bangalore at Thorekadana Halli in Malavalli taluk of Mandya. He said that 300 million litre of water would be supplied within end of September and remaining 200 million litre would be supplied during November end.

Stating that since 1973 Bangalore was supplied with water from the region and 900 million litre was supplied by four stages of the project. The second phase of fourth stage alone had the capacity to supply 500 million litre.

Elaborating on the cost, the minister said, the project was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 3,380 crore. The funds include development of slum areas and construction of drainages.

Bangalore’s everyday requirement of water was 1,270 million litre and if the second phase of fourth stage gets launched, there would be no drinking water problem in Bangalore, he added.

He claimed that the government was concentrating on development of small towns and cities unlike other governments.
