Karnataka XI translated their overwhelming dominance over the last two days to a massive 298-run win over Hyderabad President’s XI in the All-India Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup on Saturday.

Resuming from overnight 92 for no loss, Karnataka scored nearly at six an over to reach 236 for three in 40 overs, also breaking whatever remaining spirit in the home side. It was the turn of KL Rahul to join the list of centurions after skipper Sunil Raju and Karun Nair hammered hundreds in their first innings. The perfect effort with the bat in the second innings also enabled Karnataka amass an overall lead of 456. Rahul, overnight 59, reached 131 before being dismissed, while Kunal, who was on 30 overnight, remained unbeaten on 92.

Chasing 457 in 40 overs is an impossible task, but that’s what the Hyderabad side had to do on the day. Predictably, there was no life in their second innings effort, limping to 158 for seven in 40 overs as the visitors emerged comfortable winners. Pacer Ronit More took three wickets for Karnataka XI, while Naveen Kumar (93) shone with the bat for the home side.

Brief scores: Karnataka XI: 436/6 in 90 overs and 236/3 in 40 overs (KL Rahul 131, Kuna Kapoor 92  n.o.) bt Hyderabad President’s XI: 216 all out in 61 overs and 158/7 in 40 overs (Naveen Kumar 94; Ronit More 3-21).
