The Centre has called a meeting of chief secretaries of all states in New Delhi on September 19 to discuss the modalities of ensuring that benefits of Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojane (National Health Insurance Programme) for workers reach the maximum number of beneficiaries.
Speaking at a programme here on Saturday, organised by the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Union Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge pointed out that while there were 3.4 crore construction workers in the country only 88 lakh had enrolled for the insurance scheme. The minister blamed the state government for lapses in using the fund.
