Mohammad ElBaradei
Addressing the international conference on Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy here, El Baradei said the country has successfully adopted nuclear energy in the fields of radiation, nuclear medicine and agriculture, as he recalled India’s support for elimination of nuclear weapons as far back as in 1988.

“I trust India’s voice will continue to be heard,” El Baradei hoped. While forecasting the exponential growth of nuclear energy sector in Asia in the near future, El Baradei called on nations to prevent proliferation of nuclear materials.

He agreed that every nation had the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, but warned that they must ensure the technology should not be diverted for other objectives. He welcomed moves by the US and Russia to restart talks on reducing nuclear stockpiles.
