Mother, daughter killed in hit-and-run accident

Father, son survive; angry locals stone N R police checkpost

 Tension prevailed for sometime when a woman and her 10-year-old daughter were knocked down by a truck near K R Mill colony on Mysore- Bangalore road on Wednesday. Following the incident, a mob stoned the nearby police checkpost damaging the property.

The deceased have been identified as Radha (29) wife of Basavaraj and Shivani (10) residents of Hebbal.

The incident occurred when Basavaraj, a milk vendor and his family; Radha, Shivani and five-year-old son Vikas Gowda were returning home from  Srirangapatna side on a motorbike around 6 pm.

They had gone to the village to attend a function. The 10-wheeled truck bearing the registration number of Andhra Pradesh, hit the vehicle from the rear side.


Thippesh Gowda escaped unhurt, while Basavaraj suffered minor injuries. He was treated as an out-patient at a nearby hospital.Soon after the mishap the lorry driver sped off.

The angry locals were irked to know that the police outposts attached to N R station had remained defunct. They hurled the cement bricks on the window panes and door of the outpost damaging the same.

Acting on the eye-witness account, N R traffic police are on the track of the killer lorry.
A case has been registered and investigations are on.

Murder: Four arrested

Somwarpet police have arrested four persons in connection with the murder of a man at Honavalli in Somwarpet taluk, Kodagu district, recently. According to the police, the arrested are Jayappa, Naveen, Ganesh and Prasanna.


The arrested had allegedly murdered Manjunath (40), while he was returning home on a two-wheeler. The police arrested the accused at Periyapatna bus shelter.
