Zilla Panchayat President K T Shialja Bhat said that no major misappropation of funds have taken place under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Dakshina Kannada.

However, the scheme has not been implemented effectively in DK when compared to other districts. The officials have failed to implement the ambitious scheme of the government.

Speaking at the KDP monthly meeting here on Saturday, she said a sum of Rs 29.19 crore was earmarked under the scheme. However, it was not fully utilised. “We have instances of few districts wherein development works worth Rs 300 crore have been taken up,” she said.

It is alleged that Taluk Panchayat EOs and implementing authorities are not showing keen interest in the implementation of the scheme. The officials should not be lethargic while implementing the scheme, she said.

Minor irrigation

ZP CEO Dr K N Vijayaprakash expressed displeasure over the working of minor irrigation department. The CEO took Executive Engineer to task for not attending the review meeting of the District-in-Charge Minister. In 2011-12, as many as 219 works must have been completed by the minor irrigation department.

However, only 86 works have been completed and 28 works have not yet commenced. Several works taken up during 2009-10 and 2010-11 are still pending. The Minor irrigation department plays a vital role in solving the drinking water woes that crop up during summer.

Unfortunately, the works have not been implemented effectively in DK, said the CEO.
The Minor Irrigation department has received Rs 53 crore in 2011-12 and Rs 40.99 crore during 2012-13.

As there was none from Nirmithi Kendra, the CEO directed the officials to issue a notice to the official concerned. Though KIADB Official was absent initially, he arrived at the meeting late. Hence, it was decided to send a report to the government against the officer.

Executive Engineer Sathyanarayana said that there was no fluoride content in water in Dakshina Kannada.

The CEO said that there was a need to increase the pass percentage in SSLC. Mock test should be given to the students. Teachers are getting trained in yoga which will be implemented in schools.

Zilla Panchayat Standing Committee on agriculture and Industry President Naveen Kumar Menala, Deputy Secretary Shivarame Gowda, Chief Project Officer Mohammed Naseer, Project Director Seethamma and others were present.
