ABVP to observe bandh on campus today against police crackdown

Members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad at Delhi University are planning to prevent students from attending classes by calling a bandh on Monday.

They are planning to protest against the “uncalled for” lathicharge by police on Saturday when Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections results came out.
Rohit Chahal, state secretary, ABVP, alleged that several students are severely injured because of the incident.

Students critical

“We will shut down the campus by force if required, but we will first request students to support us. Three student members are in ICU and 15 other students are also admitted in Indira Hospital. We are going to raise concerns about private guards using violence to prevent students from entering the conference centre,” he said.

After the news of NSUI’s victory in DU elections, close to 10 ABVP members approached the election committee with a demand of recounting.

“But they were first hit by security guards and then by police. Demanding an explanation for any wrongdoing is every student’s right,” added Chahal.

They were not doing anything wrong or against the law, said Chahal.

Re-counting of votes

ABVP members are also demanding recounting of votes as they suspect that the counting process has been tampered.

Members alleged that they saw Bhupinder Singh Hooda outside the vice chancellor’s office at 6 am.

“We are also demanding a probe into the dinner held three days ago at the All India Congress Committee’s office for principals from DU colleges. The vice chancellor had called everyone for the dinner,” said Chahal.
