Five robbers, including a woman, posing as power distribution company employees barged into a doctor’s house at Welcome in east Delhi on Monday, and took the family members hostage at gunpoint and then robbed cash and jewellery worth several lakhs, police said.

The robbers held hostage the family members of 42-year-old Suneet Kaushik, on Monday afternoon, when he was not there.

Kaushik’s wife Dimple, 38, mother Leelawati, 65, and his four-year-old son were at the house at West Gorakh Park in Welcome.

A woman along with her two accomplices, first knocked at the door, claiming she had to check the electricity meter at the house. While they were talking to the family, two other miscreants came and together they barged in. They asked for the keys to all the almirahs, and thrashed Dimple and Leelawati when they tried to resist.

Then the five robbers tied all the three family members with rope and taped their mouths while they ransacked the house. They fled with all the jewellery and cash.
The incident came to light when Kaushik returned from his clinic at Jawahar Nagar in Loni in Uttar Pradesh at around 5 pm.

“When I returned home, I was shocked to see that all the family members were tied up,” Kaushik told police. He immediately untied them and informed police.
“We are investigating the matter. Cash and jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh are missing from the house,” said a police officer.
