Urban Development Minister Suresh Kumar along with a team of officials will visit a garbage processing unit at Salem in Tamil Nadu that has offered to give its assistance to the State in garbage disposal.
Addressing the media in Bangalore, Kumar said the team will visit the plant operated by Hanjira Biotech Energy Ltd, on Tuesday to study the working of the system. The plant is said to have an automated segregation plant which can sort out the biodegradable and nonbiodegradable waste.
Successful management
He said the firm had been successfully managing waste and Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar had evinced interest on furthering its proposal.
Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa had also visited the plant, he said and added that the firm had proposed to set up a unit in a ten acre plot near Bangalore.
Report to Cabinet
Kumar said that after his visit, a detailed report will be submitted to the cabinet, next week. He added that the government was planning to set up solid waste management units at different locations in the City to help collection and management of garbage in a more systematic manner.
