Hindu ex-editor G Kasturi dead

G Kasturi, former editor of “The Hindu” and former managing director of “Kasturi & Sons Limited,” died at his residence in Chennai at 2 am on Friday, after suffering congestive heart failure.

He was 87. Kasturi, who was the editor of the “The Hindu” from September, 1965 to January, 1991.

He is survived by wife Kamala, two sons and a daughter.

Described as a “visionary and moderniser,” Kasturi introduced full page facsimile transmission system for printing for the first time in India in 1969. He also introduced computer-aided photocomposing in “The Hindu” in 1980, the first mainline Indian newspaper to do so.

Kasturi had also headed the “Press Trust of India” and the”‘Indian Newspaper Society.”
