Think and talk wellness

THINK POSITIVE
Last Updated 21 September 2012, 13:46 IST

There is, what I call, Wellness Behaviour. You think wellness; believe staunchly you’re in great health; feel you’re strong, sure and loved; behave as one who can climb mountains.

Ah yes, robustness is your second name. It’s not about putting on a façade but a wise and genuine way of being. When you are this way consistently, your body too gets absorbed in your marvelous living-script and rides hardily along.

It worked beautifully for a doctor who had a chest surgery to remove cancer cells. He talked and lived from his inner self, the invisible being that is untouched by physical ailments.

When he focused on his inner wellness identity, his capillaries brightened to a rich red, sending fresh blood and oxygen surging into his tissues and speeding up the healing process. Conversely, when he functioned from his physical identity, worrying about work, finances, family, health, his capillaries paled and the healing slowed down.

That’s why it’s imperative to exit Illness Behaviour and get into your wellness act instantly by sending healthy vibrations into your body — i.e. think and talk on these positive lines constantly:

*I’m bouncingly healthy in my being and in my life.
* I have a deep abiding sense that life is beautiful and bountiful.
*Peace is my treasure; contentment, my wealth.

Please understand, you don’t confine your health to your body but e-x-t-e-n-d it to your larger self. A healthy self-rating boosts the quality of life regardless of your physical state. It promotes well-being — i.e. you are well in your being — an identity beyond the body where you are whole, undamaged, pure.

My point: don’t lose heart, lose only your pessimism; don’t lose faith, lose only your cynicism. Take my word: life begins to make ample sense when you include your non-physical self in your thought-processes and activities. You get a much larger identity. In this largeness, a physical illness, disorder or infirmity becomes relatively an inset instead of occupying the entire picture.

My mother, a stroke patient, would say, “I’ve come to earth to make people happy.” With this as her cheerful purpose, she rose above her helplessness. You might wonder, in this elevation, does pain go away? Sometimes, it does; or it diminishes as you become larger than it.

To live with your feet on the ground and your head and heart in divinely healing heights, adopt these 10 beautiful ways:

* Realise: it’s your duty to be happy. Yes, it is. Shoulder it with a smile.
*Eat and drink merrily but moderately; and laugh a lot more.
*Sleep like you’re resting; rest like you’re sleeping.
*Take one minute of your time to praise and make another’s day.
* Exercise. It’s a good activity that keeps healthy body-parts healthy and strengthens weak spots.

*Awaken your will power by writing clearly: “I shall always live in wellness.” Before you sleep and on waking up, say this sentence three times. On ‘bad’ days, repeat it more often. Don’t let pessimism kill your will.

*Stop ordering people around. When your expectations are not met, it creates frustration, anger, pain. As little Dewey says, “You’re at the zoo, you have a popsicle, how can you be unhappy?” Keep life simple and see how it sweetens.

*To ward off tension and fatigue, focus on your breathing.
*Enjoy solitude. Bask in your own silent, sweet presence.
* Spend time in the sun and let your body soak natural Vitamin D.

Finally, here’s a cheerful all’s-well assurance: “Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don’t worry. God never blinks.” Cheers to that!
