Former minister says CRA decision is not in the interest of State

Flaying the formula suggested by the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) for sharing the river water with Tamil Nadu, the members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Narayana Gowda) staged a protest, by holding mock funeral procession, at Kushalnagar on Friday.

The protest was led by district president Venkatesh Poojary and shouted slogans against the UPA government, and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha.

The protesters formed a human chain in front of Field Marshal K M Cariappa Circle and burnt the effigy of the UPA government.

Speaking on the occasion, Poojary said “the State is reeling under drought. There is no enough water for the cattle. There is acute shortage of water in drought hit taluks. To make the  matter worse, the South West monsoon is all set to end in the next few days.
So there will be no improvement in the inflows to the reservoirs in the Cauvery basin. The Union Ministers who are representing the State should tender resignation to the post, in protest against the decision of the CRA to release 9,000 cusecs of water every day between September 20 and October 15, to Tamil Nadu.”

Chikmagalur

Former Union minister D K Taradevi Siddarth said that the decision of the CRA is not in the interest of the people of Karnataka.

Speaking to presspersons, she said the representatives from Karnataka had informed drought situation in the state. However, Prime Minister had asked Karnataka to release water owing to the pressure from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.”

“The State government’s decision not to release 9,000 cusecs water is correct. There is a need to ensure that no injustice is meted out at the farmers of the State.”

Hike in fuel price

Protesting against the rice in the price of fuel and capping of LPG cylinders will not help the commonman. The State government should reduce the tax on the diesel, thereby reducing the price. The 12 cylinders at subsidised rate is being misused. There is a need to bring in reforms in the distribution of LPG, she added.
