Petition filed against doctors' strike

S Vasudevan, a City advocate in an interlocutory application (IA) to the suo moto petition initiated by the division bench comprising Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and V G Sabhahit, has sought action against doctors and the State government as well.

The petitioner argued that despite the High Court’s directions, the doctors are on strike for the fourth time in the past nine months and had tendered resignation en masse, paralysing the medical services in the State.

The petitioner said that the patients have been affected due to the tug of war between the Government and the doctors.
The division bench comprising Justice Jawad Rahim and Justice Srinivasa Gowda adjourned the matter.

It may be recalled that a division bench headed by the Chief Justice in its interim order dated May 4, 2009 had directed for necessary action against agitating doctors and suspension and cancellation of Karnataka Medical Council registrations in accordance with law.

It had also cancelled an application seeking to vacate the interim order. Another order in 2005 by the division bench headed by the then Chief Justice N K Sodhi too had ruled that the doctors cannot go on strike.
