Enraged youth kills father over low grades

A 17-year-old youth on Sunday shot dead his father  after a verbal spat when the latter pulled up his son for not concentrating on his studies.

The incident occurred at Srikali which comes under in Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam district.

Tragedy struck the family of 52-year-old Arya Padam, a serviceman, as his minor son in a fit of rage allegedly seized a ‘SBBL (Single Barrel Bridge Load) gun in the former’s possession, pulled the trigger and shot him at point blank range in the backyard of their home.

An Army veteran

Police sources in Nagapattinam told Deccan Herald over the phone that Arya Padam who retired from the Army in 2008.

 Arya Padam was later employed as ‘security’ staff in a public sector refinery company in Panangudi in Nagapattinam District. Therefore, he had a valid license for the SBBL gun and was carrying it with him always.

“The incident took place around 3:15 pm on Sunday and the man died on the spot and Arya Padam’s body was taken for post-mortem,” the source said.

The lad, a Class XII student in a local school, was apparently not doing well in his studies, but there could be other factors like family feud, police sources said, adding, the boy was born from Padam’s first wife.

The Class XII student has been arrested and charged under various sections, including 302 (murder) of IPC and under Arms Act, sources said.
