HC grants permission to jailed undertrial for admission in MBBS

In a Munnabhai MBBS sort of case, an alleged fraud lodged in Rohtak jail has secured the Delhi High Court’s order to take admission to a government medical college in Chhattisgarh to study medicine.

Justice G S Sistani granted Uttar Pradesh native Ahmed (name charged) permission to take admission in Jagdalpur Medical College in Chhattisgarh.

He said in his plea that he had cleared the entrance test in July this year, but had been arrested by Haryana police on charges of forgery and impersonation in another medical entrance test.

The court allowed Ahmed’s plea as the counsel for both the Centre and the Chhattisgarh government did not oppose his plea.

Ahmed, a resident of Siddharth Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh, had told the court that he had cleared his counselling for MBBS in the jail but due to delay on the part of jail authorities, he was not able to reach the college in time in August this year for his admission.

The court asked the petitioner to report to the Government Medical College, Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh on September 27 for admission in MBBS course in view of the last date of admission being September 30.

“Having regard to the peculiar facts of this case and the submission made by counsel for Chhattisgarh and Union government that they have no objection if the prayers made in thus plea are allowed and also taking into consideration that one seat is lying vacant with the Government Medical College, Jagdalpur, the petition is allowed,” said Justice Sistani.
