Facing hardship

The connectivity between Barkur and Sathana through Moodahaduv is a long pending demand of the people. The villagers are facing hardships as bridge across river Seetha at Bennekudru is incomplete.

The PWD had taken up the work on the bridge to provide direct connectivity between Sasthana and Barkur, at a cost of Rs two crore. However, the work on the bridge has remained incomplete for the last one year.

About 3.15 km road under Pradhan Manthri Gram Sadak Yojana has been completed from Moodahaduv to the bridge. The work was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 1.13 crore. Though the work on the bridge was completed in July, no measures were taken to build a ramp to provide connectivity. The bridge is 50 metre long and 12 feet wide.

Few residents of Moodahaduv, Pandeshwara had failed to part their land for laying the road to the bridge. The Pandeshwar Gram Panchayat and the officials had tried their level best to pursuade the villagers to hand over their land.

Without proper connectivity and the bridge, the villagers from Sasthana have to ply via Brahmavar to reach Barkur. With the bridge at Bennekudru, the distance between Sasthana and Barkur is just five kilometre. This helps the residents to save at least 10 km.

Flaying the slow progress of the work, the residents have planned to stage a protest, against the PWD and the contractors.
