Handling natural, artificial calamities with proficiency

Quick response during times of mishaps, first aid during medical emergencies, presence of mind during accidents, immediate care and help during necessary situations, averting further dangerous situations during disasters, first aid when calamity strikes, alertness in critical conditions, etc, etc....

These and many more were demonstrated by the members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at a presentation organised on the premises of the Travellers’ Bungalow in Shidlaghatta town on Monday. The demonstrations, organised particularly for the schoolchildren, taught them how to behave and react durings times of emergencies.

Tips and advises on how one should handle cardiac arrest, heart failure, breathing problems, bleeding, resuscitation, first aid, nursing, snake bites, life-saving techniques and aids to help save the lives of patients during emergencies are demonstrated by the members of the Force.

In great detail

Awareness was made on handling natural and man-made disasters, accidents and mishaps, through lectures and live presentations. Terrorist attacks, fire mishaps, chemical and nuclear wars, building collapse, internal injuries, external injuries, eyes, head and body injuries, fractures and water disasters, etc were explained in detail. The means of rescue operations, the hindrances, alertness and preparedness, possible loopholes, drawbacks, etc, were also discusssed.

Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Commandant R P Bharati Pal explained to the students that the 10th Batallion of the NDRF was based at Guntur in Andhra Pradesh.

The Batallion was organising awareness and demonstration programmes to all the communities of the nine districts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka states each. 

The Batallion had already conducted similar programmes in Dakshina Kannada and Hassan districts in Karnataka and had arrived at Chikkaballapur district, he explained.
Tahsildar Bheema Naik, Chief Executive Officer of the Taluk Panchayat Dr Vijay Prakash, Zilla Panchayat engineer Nagappa, Superintendent of Treasury Manjunath, Education Co-ordinator Ramanna and several others were present on the occasion.
