A businessman was allegedly beaten up mercilessly by his brother and nephew for objecting to their pet dog’s barking in east Delhi’s Jagatpuri area, police said on Tuesday.

Victim Ashwani Sharma, 42, is a resident of New Layalpur, who runs a rubber stamp shop near Hasanpur bus depot. He is undergoing treatment at Hedgewar Hospital for fractures in his leg and back.

“The incident came to light after a call was made to the police control room by Ashwani’s wife Ritu on Sunday,” a senior police officer said.

After receiving the call, a team reached the spot and learnt that Ashwani was already taken to the hospital by his wife. The man’s statement was recorded at the hospital.
He said he stays on the third floor of their parent’shouse with his family while the first two floors are occupied by his brother’s family.

“On Sunday at around 7.30 pm, he had returned home from his shop and went to his house. Around 9.40 pm, his brother’s pet dog started barking which disturbed him while he was trying to sleep,” the official added. Ashwani came down and complained to his nephew Dheeraj.

Complains to nephew

The victim asked him to either make the dog stop barking or drop him back to the place from where it was brought.

This made Dheeraj angry and he hurled abuses at Ashwani. When Ashwani protested to this, Dheeraj pushed him on the ground. Meanwhile, Dheeraj’s father Brijmohan arrived and they together beat up Ashwani.

A case under sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) has been registered against Brijmohan and Dheeraj with Jagatpuri police station.
Police said the accused are absconding after the incident and efforts are on to nab them.
