East Corporation tells RWAs of 312 colonies to make layout plan

Taking the first step towards regularisation of the unauthorised colonies, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has written to resident welfare associations of the localities which have come up on a private land to initiate the process making a layout plan.

“The letter written to RWAs carries the details of the concerned officials of the town planning wing of the Jamia Millia Islamia. The RWAs along with the town planning experts have to make the layout plan. The process is likely to take a month,” said EDMC commissioner S S Yadav.

“We will take around a month to scrutinise the plans, before tabling it before the standing committee. We are hopeful that we will start approving the plans by December,” added Yadav.

Out of the 895 unauthorised colonies which have been given the go ahead for regularisation, 312 have come up on private land. These colonies will be regularised earlier in comparison to the rest of the colonies which have come up on government land.

Fixing the layout plan of colonies on government land and their regularisation will begin only after they pay the land cost. Out of 312 colnies on private land, 50 colonies come under the jurisdiction of the east corporation.

The Delhi government has empanelled three institutes — School for Planning and Architecture, Jamia Millia and GGS Indraprastha University — to help the RWAs in finalising the layout plan. The east corporation has opted for the town planning department of Jamia Millia.

The officials said, the cost of making the layout plan will be initially borne by the corporation, which will be reimbursed by the city government. “Even if the money is not reimbursed, it won’t be a huge burden on the corporation as the amount involved would not be very huge,” a senior corporation official said.
