Bo Xilai expelled from party

The Communist Party of China (CPC) Friday sacked the disgraced Bo Xilai, until recently one of its most powerful leaders.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Central Committee, Xinhua reported. The meeting decided to transfer criminal cases slapped against him to the judiciary.

Bo's wife Gu Kailai was last month handed a suspended death sentence for the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood. An aide who helped her was jailed for nine years.

Bo's political fortunes came to an end after provincial police chief Wang Lijun sought asylum at the American consulate and revealed details of the murder.

Bo was earlier considered for a promotion to the Politburo Standing Committee in CPC.
He was removed as Chongqing party chief in March. His dismissal exposed cracks within the party ranks shortly before a leadership transition.

A court Monday sentenced Wang to 15 years in prison and deprived him of his political rights for one year after finding him guilty of bending the law for selfish ends, defection, abuse of power and bribe taking.
