Senior BJP leader L K Advani on Saturday commended lexicographer Prof G Venakatasubbaiah on his completion of a century, “marked by sixes and boundaries”.Speaking at the felicitation of the lexicographer who turned 100 in August this year, Advani said GV was aptly honoured with the title ‘Shabdha Brahma’.

“I am overjoyed to be here today alongside Venkatasubbaiah who has not only scored a century — it’s a century marked by sixes and boundaries. When I asked him about his good health, he said the secret was his  positive thinking. I learnt that he continues to work even today — it’s not an easy task. Venkatasubbaiah is anything but old,” he said.
Receiving the felicitation, Venkatasubbaiah said that he had never expected that he would live up to 100 years.

“I guess the secret to my long life and good health is that I am surrounded by people 20 years younger than me – I don’t have any friends of my age,” he said. GV said he owed his achievements to his father, litterateurs B M Srikantaiah, T S Venkanaiah and A R Krishnashastry.

He welcomed the government’s decision to reopen the dictionary office at the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, which, he said, should expedite work on the pending projects. GV suggested the Parishat to bring out multilingual and bilingual dictionaries with the help of youth. The event was organised by Sri Jayaram Seva Mandali of Jayanagar.
