'Protect tanks to improve ground water level'

She was speaking after inaugurating ‘Shuddha Ganga” a drinking water unit sponsored by Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), Chikmagalur Zilla Panchayat and Hyderabad-based Nandi Foundation at Yagati village in Kadur taluk on Thursday.
The health of rural people is being affected since they are getting fluoride-mixed water for drinking. They suffer from problems like kidney failure, weak teeth and bones and the like. Considering this, the organisations have opened 10 drinking water units in the Yagati village at a cost of Rs 10 lakh, she said.

SKDRDP District Director Jayarama Nellithaya said the villagers should pay Re 1 for 10 lts of pure drinking water. Each family will get a minimum of 20 lts of pure drinking water every day. The villagers will be given monthly cards for the scheme, he informed.
Zilla Panchayat member K M Kemparaj distributed monthly cards to some customers.
Kadur PLD Bank former head Ravi Prakash, ZP Deputy Secretary Kantharaj, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Anjan Kumar, Jecob representing Nandi Foundation and others spoke on the occasion.
