Remembering the Mahatma

Bangalore Doordarshan in association with Sarvodaya International Trust, celebrated the day as Ahimsa Mahotsav at Raj Bhavan.

Representatives from six religions - Hindu, Islam, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi read out excerpts from the respective holy books. Students of Sophia Girls High School recited bhajans and it was followed by violin recital by Mysore Manjunath and his team. Governor H R Bhardwaj, Prafullata Bhardwaj, former CJI M N Venkatachalaiah, former governor Rama Jois and others attended the function.

Gandhi Bhavan
Chief Minister Yeddyurappa took part in the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations organised at Gandhi Bhavan. Speaking on the occasion, he said teachings of Gandhi should included in syllabus for schoolchildren and they should follow his principles. He also said the Government would extend financial help for construction of a Gandhi Memorial in Bangalore. Dr H Srinivasaiah, president of Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, appealed to schools to make khadi as uniform for schoolchildren.
