East Corporation to seal 18,500 properties

Last Updated 08 October 2012, 20:22 IST

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation is all set to launch the biggest property sealing drive in east Delhi starting October 15. Over 18,500 properties are likely to face action if the owners fail to pay the parking and conversion fees. The toll is charged when residential property is put to commercial or mixed land use.

East corporation commissioner S S Yadav said notices were served to all defaulters long back, asking them to clear their dues by June 30. “Special camps were also held to help clear the backlog.  About 5,000 property owners turned up and paid the fees, but the remaining 18,500 have not paid up,”he said.

“Now final notices have been served. If they fail to pay conversion charges by October 15, sealing of their properties would begin,” he added.
While 13,928 properties fall in Shahadra (south) zone, 4,656 properties are in Shahadra (north) zone.

“Under the Shahadra (south) zone, the maximum defaulters are in Anarkali (1,791), followed by Shakarpur (1,626), Geeta Colony (1,489), Patparganj (1,128) and Vishwas Nagar (1,128). Under the Shahadra (north) zone, most defaulters are in Nand Nagri (625) Old Seemapuri (552), Ashok Nagar (500) and New Seemapuri (400),” an official said.
While officials refused to give the exact amount of money accrued against the defaulters, it is likely to run into several crores.

To seal mobile towers The civic body has decided to seal all mobile towers installed on the terraces of buildings which do not have proper licences to do so. About 150 such towers have been identified after a survey.

“Several towers have been installed without getting permission from the civic body. While some property owners had applied for permission and are at different stages of getting clearance, others did not apply at all. Orders have been obtained to seal such towers,” an East corporation official said.
