Samajwadi Party faces 'cell' problem in UP

Samajwadi Party, which stormed to power in Uttar Pradesh with a thumping majority in the last Assembly polls, has been facing an unusual problem.

In a bid to `make hay while the sun shines', some unscrupulous elements have reportedly formed fake cells of the ruling party and have become their office bearers. These fake leaders have been visiting various parts of the state, trying to seek favours from officials.

According to SP leaders, the party was recently shocked to know about a ‘dairy cell’. “The matter came to our knowledge after some district officials said office bearers of the party’s dairy cell had visited them seeking favours,” said a leader.

Alarmed over the reports, the SP leadership quickly issued a statement making it clear that the party did not have was a `dairy cell’.

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is also SP’s state unit president, has directed the chiefs
of the party’s district and city units to inform workers and leaders that no such cell had been formed.

Party leaders suspect there may be many more fake cells operating in the state. “Leaders and workers have been asked to keep a close eye and inform the top leaders if they come across any such cell,” the leader added.

Alarm bells earlier rang after a youth claiming to be an SP worker took officials for a ride in Basti district.

He enjoyed the privileges of a minister for two days by submitting a fake letter stating that he was member of the state advisory council. Udhbhav Shukla was caught after it was found that he did not hold any such post.
