With two more cases of alleged rape, including one of a young girl and another of a young widow, reported in the last two days, the number of rapes in Haryana in the past month have gone up to 14.

The rape toll went up Tuesday as the Congress president Sonia Gandhi was visiting Narwana in Jind to meet the family of a Dalit girl who committed suicide Saturday after she was gangraped.

Police in Panipat, 90 km from New Delhi, said a youth, Parveen, was booked for sexually exploiting 12-year-old relative.

The girl is the daughter of a migrant labourer from Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. Deputy superintendent of police Vijender Vij said the police had initially booked Parveen for kidnapping the girl. However, after her medical examination confirmed rape, he was charged with rape. Police said the girl was raped Oct 3.

Acquaintance accused

In another complaint from Ambala district, 45 km from here, a 30-year-old widow alleged that she was raped by Rajinder, an acquaintance of her deceased husband.

She alleged the man even made a video of the crime and threatened to distribute it.
She alleged that Rajinder took her to Ambala for showing a plot and offered her a drink. The drink was laced with sedatives and she fell unconscious. She alleged she was raped and filmed while she was unconscious.

Gangrape and rape cases have been reported from Rohtak, Hisar, Jind, Bhiwani, Yamunanagar, Panipat, Sonipat, Ambala, Karnal and Faridabad in the past one month.
