Four arrested for burglary bid at ATM

Four people, including a juvenile, have been apprehended for trying to steal cash from an ATM inside State Bank of India’s branch at Inderlok in north Delhi, police said.

Sadiq,18, Zahid, 18 and Kamre Aalam, 22 and a juvenile were arrested in Tri Nagar for the burglary attempt on September 29, said deputy commissioner of police (north) Sindhu Pillai.

Police officials from Sarai Rohilla police station reached the spot after a call and found that an attempt had been made to enter the bank after cutting through the ventilation grill. The assailants broke the ATM but they did not succeed in taking the money, according to branch manager Raj Kumar. Police have registered a case of attempt to robbery and started the investigation. During the probe, police came to know that Zahid was involved in the burglary attempt. He was arrested at his house in Tri Nagar on Monday.

During interrogation, Zahid disclosed that he is a student of School of Open Learning, Delhi University but had got addicted to alcohol. He, along with his associates, namely Kamre Alam, Sadik and a juvenile planned to commit the theft.

They met at a temple near Gupta Complex at Inderlok where all of them drank alcohol and late at night came to the park behind the bank. The juvenile was given the task of keeping a watch outside the bank while the others cut the ventilator grill.

They all entered the bank. Sadik saw the closed circuit television cameras and cut their wire connection. They tried to open the almirahs in search of cash, but could not find cash or valuables.

Finally they broke the ATM, and tried to open it to take cash out from the machine but did not succeed. All of them escaped from the entry point
itself.
