Fine Art courses
The Sri Allamaprabhu Lalithakala Academy (SALA), in collaboration with Karnataka State Open University Mysore, is offering Fine Art courses. This is not through distance education but through classes at SALA centres, taken by teachers appointed by SALA. Anyone who has completed 18 years of age (16 years for those who have completed PUC) can apply. Candidates need to be able to read and write. It is compulsory to attend week-end classes. Candidates who have ‘vidwat’ certificate or equivalent in music can get direct admission to the Masters degree courses. Those who have ‘senior’ certificate or equivalent can get direct admission to the Masters degree courses in music. Candidates who have AM (Art Master) and GD (Government Diploma) qualification in Visual Arts with three years field experience can get direct admission to Master degree courses.
The art degrees offered are: BFA and MFA in painting / sculpture / applied art / photography /art history.
B.Mus and M.Mus in Hindustani and Carnatic Music.
B.Dance and M.Dance in Bharatanatyam.

Science contest for school children
InoVIT, the annual science contest for school children organised by VIT University is back. Aimed to inculcate interest in science activities among school students, the contest provides an outlet for them to apply their technical and scientific knowledge towards the benefit and betterment of society and mankind as a whole. It also recognises and honours students for their excellence in the sciences.
The second edition of InoVIT 2013 is being extended to the southern part of the country comprising of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry. The theme this time is “Green Clean – Earth Breathes”.
The science contest will be conducted under four major events: Working Model, Idea Presentation, Quiz and Poster Presentation. Students in Class IX to XII are eligible to participate. Three rounds of evaluation procedure will be followed viz., Qualifying Round, Preliminary Round and Final Round. To participate in the qualifying round the contestants are expected to submit an abstract of 250 words demonstrating their innovative approaches in developing models and ideas in accordance with the topics given. The last date for submitting their abstracts and the registration form is October 20, 2012. Interested students can register themselves online at https://inovit2013registration.questionpro.com . Contestants can also post their filled in registration forms.
Abstracts will be evaluated by an expert committee and the selected abstracts will be called for the preliminary round. The preliminary round will be conducted in 18 centres across the five states on November 17 and November 24, 2012. The centres are Chennai, Vellore, Trichy, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Bangalore, Hubli, Mangalore, Tirupati, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Thrissur, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Eranakulam and Puducherry.
The contestants have to display their working models, posters and give their idea presentation and quiz in the respective centres. Short listed candidates from the preliminary round will be called for the final round at VIT University in the first week of January 2013.
The Chancellor announced a total prize money of Rs. 3 lakh by VIT University for various events.

Dialysis Technician Diploma
Conceptualized in association with BONENT (Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology – USA), the Dialysis Technician Diploma course provides knowledge and training to students in the medical and technical aspects related to dialysis. Stressing on both theory and practical, the students are instructed by BONENT certified instructors on life-like dummy models and are helped to gain perfection in their work before actually being deployed at dialysis units. The courses will also provide students with training in spoken English and etiquette, further enhancing their chances to avail opportunities both in India and abroad. On completion of the two-year course students will be certified as BONENT Certified Dialysis Technicians.

GIS course
The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) has announced a short course on Geographical Information Systems (GIS) focusing on working with digital maps. The course will be held in Bangalore from November 16 to 18 at the IIHS city campus.
