1,082 PoK militants apply for rehabilitation

The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday said it had received 1,082 applications from former militants in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) for their return
under a rehabilitation policy.

“The government has received 1,082 applications from people who intend to return under the rehabilitation policy. Of these, 218 cases have been recommended and the rest of the applications are being scrutinised and verified,” Home Minister Nasir Aslam Wani said in the Legislative Council in reply to a question from Opposition People’s Democratic Party MLC Murtaza Khan.

He said the state government in consultation with the Union Home Ministry had notified a policy for the return of youth to J&K.  “As many as 66 people (some of them along with their families) have returned illegally via Nepal and other routes,” Wani said.
