A 45-year-old salon owner suffered burn injuries after his car caught fire and its doors got locked at Prashant Vihar in outer Delhi on Wednesday, police said.

Pramajit Singh, a resident of Rohini Sector 11, was on his way to City Central Mall at Prashant Vihar in his Alto car. When he was about to reach there, the car was engulfed in flames within no time.

Singh tried to come out, but the doors got locked due to the central locking system, said a police officer.

Seeing him trapped, a passerby broke the car’s windows with bricks and tried to douse the flames. It took 10 minutes to drag Singh out from the backseat. Some people rushed him to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital.

The fire department was informed about the incident, and a team came to the spot and doused the flames.

“Singh had been already taken to hospital by the time we reached there. Doctors said he got 30 per cent burn injuries,” said the officer.

Singh’s family also reached the hospital when they heard the news.  He was shifted to Saroj Hospital and Heart Institute in Rohini after preliminary treatment, police said.

Cause unknown

“The cause of the fire has not been ascertained yet. A crime team has inspected the burnt car, and will give a report in the next few days,” the officer said. He said passersby had saved Singh’s life.

Singh runs a salon near his house and lives with his wife and parents.
