'Ban below 40 micron plastic carry bags'

The Plastic Carrybag Manufacturers Association has said that it will support the district administration on banning the use of less than 40 micron thickness plastic carry bags.

The Supreme Court direction on ban on the manufacture of below 40 micron thickness plastic carry bags should be implemented effectively.

Association office bearer Godwin Fernandes said that there are a lot of misconceptions on the use of plastics. Plastic carry bags are made out of polyethylene which is used for packing food stuff, pharmaceuticals and drinking water, and its use in these critical areas have been approved by the regulatory authorities across the world. He said that plastic bags are highly economical, user friendly and hygienic. Plastic is widely accepted throughout the world as the safest and best material.
