A 38-year-old undertrial was allegedly beaten to death inside a jail. The district magistrate ordered a magisterial inquiry.
The post-mortem of Sarfuddin found that his liver and ribs were damaged, besides a injury on the body suggesting that he was assaulted inside the jail, official sources said.
S S Yadav, one of the doctor who conducted the post-mortem, said damage to the liver could be caused by internal injuries leading to death.
Jail superintendent R N Upadhaya said an inquiry will be conducted at his level and guilty will not be spared. Sarfuddin died in the district jail under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday. Sarfuddin, accused of killing his wife, was undergoing treatment in the jail hospital since October 3.
He was rushed to district hospital after he complained of high fever, vomiting and breathing problems on Wednesday night. But he died on the way, said Jail Superintendent Upadhaya.
The father of the victim Sukkhi has charged the jail administration with foul play and demanded a thorough inquiry. Sukkhi added that he had met his son on October 8 and he was having any problem.
