Dasara Tourism Sub-committee has decided to set up temporary information kiosks for the benefit of tourists queries during Dasara, at select 10 places in Mysore and Mandya districts.
Chairman of the sub-committee M N Thimmappa said that the kiosks will be opened at KSRTC sub-urban bus stand, K R Circle, Balarama gate of the Palace, outer-ring road junction on Mysore- Bangalore road, opposite Cauvery Arts and Cafts Emporium, old exhibition building on Irwin road, entrance of Jagan Mohan Palace, Nanjangud and Talakadu temples all in Mysore district and Ranganatha Swamy temple in Srirangapatna taluk, Mandya district.
The permanent information centres are functioning at St Philomena’s Church, Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Chamundi Hill, main gate of the Palace, foot of Chamundi Hill, Somanathapura, H D Kote, Hunsur and T Narsipura.
Students of Mahajana Tourism Development Institute will don the role of volunteers at the kiosks distributing info charts on Dasara events and tourist spots. The malls in the city will also be covered, besides issuing stickers to both government and private vehicles, from Mysore Travel Agents Association.
Vice-president and tourist operator B S Prashanth exuded confidence that the recent decision of the government to waive off entry tax to tourist vehicles coming to the State for Dasara will open doors to sea of tourists.
He said, 20 group tourists all from foreign countries on north India tour will be arriving here. Moreover measures are taken to spread the word on waiver off tax to tourist operators in other places too. In all 25 tongas including chariots have been identified to take interested tourists on a ride but at their own cost. The tongawallahs will be provided with uniforms and Mysore peta.
