Krishi yanthra mela II from Nov 2

Farm equipment from China, Israel will be on display at the event

The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative (CAMPCO) Ltd, Arecanut Research and Development Foundation (ARDF) and Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur will organise a three-day ‘krishi yahthra mela II 2012,’ at the college premises in Puttur from November 2.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday, Campco  President Konkodi Padmanabha said that machineries including farm equipment from China and Israel will be on display at the mela which aims at highlighting the need for mechanisation in farming.

There will be demonstration on various farm equipment. The farmers from Karnataka and Kerala will take part in the mela.

The newly invented machinery used in agriculture, horticulture, dairy farming sectors along with the innovations of the engineering college students on machines used for agriculture will be displayed. There will be over 150 stalls at the venue.

The mela will also have a flower exhibition. The farmers who visit the mela will get an opportunity to visit Campco chocolate factory in Puttur, he said. The mela will be inaugurated by Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade. Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa, Union Minister for Power and Corporate Affairs M Veerappa Moily, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Secretary to Government of India V V Bhat will be the chief guest. The valedictory of the mela will be attended by Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy, former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda, District-in-Charge Minister C T Ravi, Kasargod MP Karunakaran and others. Various useful projects from nine engineering colleges have been approved to take part in the mela.

Sessions

Padmanabha said that there will be various sessions on agriculture at the mela. The sessions are farmers opinion on mechanisation, ‘dairy farming—mechanisation, and challenges,’ the use of power sprayers, mist blowers, ropeway, and harvesting of coconut using machines, generating electricity through water, genertating electricity from wave energy, movement of crops from the plantations, drip irrigation and supply of fertilisers through drip irrigation, modern machinery for conserving plants and so on.

The mela will give a priority to the value added products of the arecanut. The agriculture department will come out with a demonstration on growing paddy in the courtyard of the house. The horticulture department will provide information on the subsidy available for various farming equipment, said the President.
