3 killed as Pakistan violates ceasefire

In a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement, three civilians were killed when Pakistani troops opened heavy mortar and gun fire on Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday morning.

“Pakistani troops fired two 80mm mortars in an unprovoked ceasefire violation in Charunda village in the Uri sector, 110 km from here on Tuesday morning. One of the shells landed in a civilian area, resulting in the death of three civilians,” official sources told Deccan Herald.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Shafi, 25, Liyaqat Ahmad, 15 and Shaheena Akhtar, 20. General Officer Commanding (GOC), 19-Infantry Division, Major General Bipin Rawat told reporters in Baramulla that Pakistani troops have been continuously violating cease fire in Uri sector since October 3.

“We lodged our protest on October 4 with the Pakistan Army, yet there were some violations. Last night they fired again,” he added.
