Award for Sowparnika Projects

Sowparnika Projects has been given the ‘Best Affordable Housing’ award for this year by Silicon India in co-operation with LIC Housing Finance, Bangalore. The Director of the company, Meenakshi Ramji has been lauded with the title, ‘Woman Achiever of the Year’.
Sowparnika Projects, a key player in the affordable housing sector, was incorporated in 2003 with a vision of building cost-effective homes for the middle and upper middle class segments. After half a decade of core expertise in the construction and project management, Sowparnika transformed into a private limited company. Sowparnika has carved a niche in key high potential tier II cities like Trivandrum, Changanassery, Coimbatore and Tiruppur.

The builders started with 30,000 sq.ft and moved up to 200,000 sq.ft by 2009. They are executing over a million sq.ft of projects in Bangalore, Trivandrum and Coimbatore.

The builders are launching low cost 2BHK houses in the Rs 10-15 lakh price range for the growing lower and lower middle class populace of Bangalore. Affordable housing has also received support from the government: Sec 24(b) of the Income Tax Act which exempts the payer from taxes for interest on housing loans for owner-occupied property up to a limit of Rs 1,50,000 per year. Principal on the housing loan is an eligible deduction for the purpose of Sec 80C too. If the residential property is a long term capital asset and that the capital gains are invested in purchase or construction of a residential house within three years of sale (Sec 54 EC of Income Tax Act), exemption from capital gains is granted.
