JOIN USIn a bid to woo people of North Karnataka region ahead of the next year's assembly polls, BJP government in Karnataka today offered a slew of development projects involving Rs 5400 crore outlay, besides deciding to set up seven new medical colleges across the state.
A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar here accorded approval to development projects worth Rs 7875 crore in the state and granted a lion share of Rs 5400 crore to Gulbarga division.
The meeting approved extension, renovation and modernisation of Narayanpura left bank canal under Upper Krishna Project area with Rs 4085 crore expenditure, Shettar told reporters.
He said Rs 408 crore would be spent on development of eight industrial township in Gulbarga revenue division and Rs 197.71 crore on providing uninterrupted drinking water supply in 13 towns coming under North Karnataka Investment programme.
Sharanbasaveswara Vidya Vardhaka Sangha in Gulbarga has been permitted to set up a private university, he said.
The meeting approved establishment of a Cabinet Sub-Committee to go into the issue of development of Hyderabad Karnataka region and to draft an action plan for this purpose.
The cabinet approved the proposal to withdraw 20 cases filed against farmers and others who had participated in several agitations in North Karnataka region.
