Officers in the district who travel to Bangalore in government vehicles instead of remaining at the official headquarters will be taken to task, warned N Ashwathappa, vice-president of the Zilla Panchayat.

“Officials in charge of the respective departments will be complained to,” he added, at a progress review meeting of the Panchayat on Wednesday.

“The complacence of officers who forgo rules and travel to Bangalore instead of remaining at the district headquarters has come to our notice. Most officers misuse the government vehicles for their travel,” he said.

Government order

“The government has ordered that department officers should live within their jurisdiction so that they can be approached easily by the citizens. How can the problems of the district get solved if the officers are missing?” he asked.

The vice-president demanded a report on the officers of all departments in the next meeting. The report should include the work schedules of the officers and how closely they adhere to them.

Deccan Herald had reported on September 26 that most officers do not camp at their respective headquarters but return daily to Bangalore and other places.

The report mentioned that while some officers in the district travel by bus to reach their officers, others make use of the vehicles allotted to their departments and travel from their homes in Bangalore everyday.
