Rs 1,000 cr loan under Basava scheme

In order to speed up the housing activities, the State Cabinet has decided to stand guarantee a loan of Rs 1,000 crore to be availed by the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation for the construction of houses under the Basava Housing Scheme.

Speaking to members of media after the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said the government has decided to give priority to the construction of houses for the poor under various schemes. Out of the Rs 1,000 crore, the Gulbarga division will get Rs 300 crore.

The other major decisions taken at the Cabinet include establishment of Integrated Human Studies and Research Centre at Tumkur University at a cost of Rs 15.77 crore. An additional grant of Rs 187.25 crore was approved for the extension of Karnataka Health System Development and Improvement Project up to March 2016.

Some other suggestions included construction of a guest house with 246 rooms at Savadatti Yellamma Temple at a cost of Rs 15.3 crore, implementation of Janashree Bima Yojana through the Karnataka State Unorganised Workers Social Security Board at a cost of Rs 10 crore, construction of Devaraj Urs Bhavan in each taluk at a cost of Rs one crore and one time loan repayment facility for macro and micro enterprises.

In all, the Cabinet took decisions on 60 proposals involving an amount of Rs 7,675.54 crore.
