Three persons, including an eight-year-old boy, were killed in three road accidents in the Capital on Thursday.
Zahid, 8, of Lal Kuan was killed when a tempo rammed into the rickshaw he was travelling on with his mother in Chandni Chowk. They were returning from a wedding when the accident took place around 1.30 am near Lal Diwar.
A Tata 407 tempo was reversing and backed into the rickshaw carrying the mother and son, police said.
Zahid was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Locals thrashed tempo driver Kalam Ansari and helper Balbir Singh before handing them over to police.
30-year-old killed
A man was killed and two of his colleagues were injured when the scooter they were travelling on was rammed by a speeding truck in south-east Delhi’s Amar Colony.
Naushad Ansari, 30, lived in Nehru Nagar. He was returning home with his colleagues Khushal and Mohammad Dilbag when the accident took place around 1 am. Khushal was driving the scooty.
“When they reached Modi Mill flyover, a speeding truck hit their scooter from behind. They fell down and Naushad received head injuries,” a police official said.
A police control room vehicle rushed them to the AIIMS trauma centre, where Naushad was declared brought dead.
“Dilbag’s condition was said to be critical, while Khushal gave a statement to police,” the official added.
Driver Arshad of Rajasthan’s Alwar district was arrested on the spot.
Student dead
An IP University student was crushed to death by a speeding Haryana Roadways bus in north Delhi’s Jahangirpuri.
Aakash Chauhan, 20, was a resident of Yamuna Vihar. He was on his way to his college on his motorcycle when the accident occurred around 9.30 am at Mukundpur Chowk.
“Eyewitnesses said the speeding bus hit the motorcycle from behind. Chauhan fell off the motorcycle and came under the wheels of the bus. He died on the spot,” said a police official.
The bus driver fled from the spot leaving the bus. Local residents blocked the road for some time and vandalised the bus. A case has been registered and efforts are on to nab him.
